Traditions of Ukrainian marriage

In addition to the official wedding ceremony at the registration department, it is customary to have a few standard events if you are planning a Ukrainian bride. Among them is the otsitki, where the couple is presented with a spherical whitened bakery bread and salt. A piece of bread is supposed to be broken off, seasoned with salt, and eaten by the couple. The more the food is broken, the better, because this indicates a much and content marriage. They are finally supposed to crush the rest. The brides are also given a handkerchief to step on as they leave the festival hall. This is intended to be the first step into their upcoming household.

The newlyweds are pampered by the family’s ( starosty ) on a rushnyk-embroidered cloth. Shortly before the standard meeting, this occurs. If the kids are feeling dramatic, they might yet attempt to deceive the Bride into paying a good by bringing out an imitation.

On the day of the wedding ( Saturday or sunday ), the house did become prepared. Flowers and food were picked, food was prepared, and cooking began, typically making korovai, a particular ritual bread made of dough and decorated with purple with birds, plants, and pets. It was traditionally made by women who were regarded as having selected traits, including that they were never widows, that they had happy babies, and that they were wealthy.
