Konye Council was carved out of the former Bile Area and Kumba Central Council which covered the existing Mbonge, Konye Rural Council as was then called, was created in 1977, by a Presidential Decree No. 77/203 of June 29, 1977, but went operational in July 1978, with headquarters in Konye. Its pioneer Municipal Administrator was the Divisional Officer for Kumba Central Sub-Division, Mr Etah Samuel. Though separated from their brothers and sisters by the administrative knife, Konye still share one thing in common, a constituency at the National Assembly, Meme West Constituency which is the largest and most often cut off from the Meme Division. Printed in gold in the history of Konye Sub- Division, credits can always be given to the following founding fathers of Konye whose legacy can always be found in the foot prints of the history of Konye .They include Chief Etoto of Great Mbakwa Supe, Chief Ajang of Mekom Bakossi and Nfon Epie of Kurume Bafaw and others. Owing to the credits of fertile soil, the bulk of the population is involved in the cultivation of cash crops, justifying the abundance of the rich bio-diversity and Timber. A peace loving people and law abiding citizens, Konye presents a welcoming face to every visitor of goodwill.
